Attending MWC 2025 provided an opportunity to reflect on how the telecom industry continues to push for innovation—yet, in doing so, sometimes overlooks the potential of well-established technologies. One important realization was how USSD, a decades-old yet highly reliable communication protocol, remains underutilized in areas where it could have a significant impact, such as emergency services and microfinance solutions.

It’s clear that A.I. and high-speed networks dominate the conversation, yet millions of users still rely on basic mobile infrastructure, where USSD offers a simple and effective way to deliver essential services.

From our perspective, innovation isn’t always about replacing old technologies—it’s also about rediscovering and adapting them to address new challenges.
