Linux Origins - PAiC BD

Continuing with the open source origins post, stemming from FOSS advances in the 70s and 80s, the 90s brought a completely free to use, open source operating system – Linux. Back in 1994 Linux 1.0 was released as the first stable version, after previous releases in 1992.

In a relatively quick period, many applications, projects and companies adapted to this open source operating system, e.g. GNU, BSD, Slackware, Debian, RedHat and others, allowing Linux to become the most popular open source operating system.

New open source projects arose geared towards different use cases and verticals, which increased the number and quality of members within contributing communities, several of these relying on Linux at its base.

Thanks to the contributing nature of open source communities, Linux and other open source projects have greatly improved its performance, capacities and security. Linux continues to this day, to be the preferred operating system due to its reliability, efficiency, flexibility and security, continuing to enable powerful present day applications and projects like Kubernetes, Docker and many more.

PAiC BD is thankful to the collaborative nature and far-reaching impact of these and many other successful open source collaborations, and is looking forward to continuous contributions in the short term and beyond.
